Helping people with difficulties and problems is one of the more challenging activities I am aware of. The problems are often not just physical, but spiritual as well. Sharing the truth of the Bible is also one of the more challenging activities I can think of in this world that loves falsehood. It can be challenging to work in faith. It means depending on the Eternal, genuinely trusting in His provision. About twenty years ago, we were first receiving the idea that our Heavenly Father wanted us to work with children. As commonly happens to people new to the missionary field, we were excited and thought of the many great things that could happen and expected them to happen quickly. Well ... twenty years later, it seems like it is time to actively begin a mission and set up outreaches. There has been much cleansing in our own lives and a lot of training along the way. Back then we had the enthusiasm, but no idea how unprepared we were. Now we believe He is saying we are ready ... and we are aware of many challenges ahead. We have seen miracles and witnessed His provision at work in many situations. We recognize that we could not make such a project happen on our own. This is His project, and we get to help by being the messengers.
The Bible contains instructions to care for the orphans, widows, and poor ... of which there is an increasing number of poor people in the United States. This project is inspired by the success stories of Gladys Aylward (orphanage in China), Amy Carmichael (orphanage in India), and William Booth (founder of the Salvation Army). During the last couple decades, I have been particularly inspired by the works done by George Mueller. He is remembered not only for the orphanage houses he ran in England, but even more so because he had the faith to always go to the Eternal for his needs rather than asking people for help. I have been trying to follow that example and slowly learning to rely on my Heavenly Father for all things ... and it has been an amazing journey.
However, we must remember that it is His provision for His work.
