Helping the Poor
The Hungry People
Have you, at any time in your life, had to watch as the food in your cupboards dwindled without any way of replacing the food that had been there? Have you felt the quiet desperation that is faced when you start wondering when or what your next meal will be? Have you ever had to face your family and say that you have nothing to serve them at mealtime?
For most of us, this has not been something we have had to experience. Yet it happens every day in throughout the world and increasingly often here in the United States. There can be many reasons for this situation happening, Sometimes it is a direct result of one's own actions, but most of the time it is not. When this situation occurs, whatever the reason, it is a tragedy.
Reaching Out
Have you ever ventured into one of the area's soup kitchens who serve meals to hundreds of people once a week? Have you met the volunteers who help or the people who receive the food? Have you done anything to help?
As believers we are called to help people. We cannot allow ourselves to be calloused over and simply ignore the situation. We need to see those in troubled times and actually do something to help and not just merely think of the situation. We must act!
Having Compassion
The Almighty loves and cares for all people and wants them to be taken care of, especially among those who follow Him. Food is a basic necessity to life and a very important topic with the Almighty ... Scripture proves it with the volume of laws that come in regards to food and feeding people. There are laws in regards to farming such as letting people eat of the crops, not harvesting the corners of the fields, and of allowing people to glean. There are the commands to help the poor, widow, and fatherless whose biggest challenge is often having enough food to get by. There are laws about tithing to take care of the priests, the Levites, and the poor. The blessings given in Scripture include abundance of food, crops in their season, and the promised land is described as flowing with milk and honey. In contrast, curses include famine and lack of rain for the crops.
The Almighty has love and compassion for His people ... compassion that does not just care for the people but feels pain for them and seeks what will heal them. Do we feel this compassion? Do we act on such compassion? We cannot be armchair quarterbacks on this topic ... there are people in need around us and we should be caring for them. This is one of the great ways of sharing the love of the One Most High with others.
The means that you have available is what you can use to help. If you have time, use that time. If you have money, use that money. Use it to honor the One Most High. There are many, many opportunities to serve and to help around you. Look for them. Seek them out. Try to see who is out there and do not hide your face from the needy. Learn a deeper love and compassion. Go out in the world ... even if it is only your own neighborhood.
Helping Children
The basic idea of the Encouraging Life Children's Mission is to prepare a scalable method of training people to help the children in their local area where there is lack.
This can be as simple as just helping with providing food for a single family that is poor.
It can be more involved by bringing a family that needs temporary residency into their own home.
It can be a major project where dormitory or boarding house living can accommodate many families.
It can include aiding in education or providing safe activities for children in a community.
Different people will be called to help their local region in different ways. The Mission's goal is to help establish them and give biblical based training in helping with the spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical help of children.
It is further hoped to supply books and materials that can be given to the children and aid their growth as people and as believers.
