If the Bible Is True, Then ...
While this phrase may not have been a literal motto for myself during the last quarter century, it certainly has been the mindset with which I have approached life. "What if the Bible is true ..." has defined my way of life. I have been slowly getting away from the denominational traditions taught to me when growing up and, instead, learning to simply follow what the Eternal has told us to do through His Word. It has been an amazing journey! You can read my testimony at Learning to Follow the Good Shepherd where I share the personal details of His leading me in growth, cleansing, and learning to love. Here, following the Encouraging Life seminar outline, are ten of the most important things I have learned along the way.
Units **If you believe this ... **
Risk of Destruction If Scripture is true, then our soul is at risk. The eternal judgment will come and we will face everlasting life or death. It means there is a battle for life and death with both friends and foes, that the questions in the search for meaning to life can be answered, and we should not gamble with eternity as we live out our lives in this fallen world. If you believe this, you will have both the fear of death from sin and the peace from the promises of His merciful forgiveness that overcomes death.
Reaching for Higher Ground
If Scripture is true, then we can reach for the Kingdom of Light and understand life, morality, mercy, honor, and all the fruits of the Spirit while the Kingdom of Darkness produces philosophies and worldviews that bring misery and all the lusts of the flesh. The Tree of Life teaches us how to thrive as we humbly obey our Creator while the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil brings a loss as it encourages man kind to try and do things under his own power. If you believe this, you will continually strive to break the worldly habits of wickedness and build new habits of righteousness.
Role of Defending Life
If Scripture is true, we are caught in a war. When life is attacked either physically or spiritually, it must be defended from the enemy that would destroy, corrupt, or enslave. Understanding the enemy's tactics and deception becomes a basic essential while training to resist false ideas and concepts provides the major battlegrounds. If you believe this, you will aim for the high standard of living out what each piece of the Armor of Light represents.
Relationship With the King If Scripture is true, we can rely on the promises given in His Word and have a closer relationship with the Eternal. There is nothing more powerful than an active relationship with the Eternal for it is He who is Creator, Lawgiver, and Redeemer and it is His Word that gives us accurate instructions regarding how to properly worship Him. If you know you have salvation, you can withstand anything the enemy throws at you and still have peace within His love and care both now and eternally.
Reality of the Kingdom of Heaven If Scripture is true, then we know that within Creation there is both physical and spiritual aspects that effect life. The opening chapters of Genesis give meaning to life and death, how man kind should care for this planet and maintain good health, as well as understand the spiritual realm of angels & demons, blessings & curses, and miracles & magic. If you believe this truth, you can learn to discern between the good that helps life and the evil that harms life.
Responsibility In the Covenant :: If the Bible is true, then the eternal has a covenant relationship with his people and obedience to the laws, rules, and commandments will bring peace and blessing while going astray by following falsehood and traditions will harm that relationship. When man kind was created, he started in purity and was told there is a path to life and a path to death; once transgressed, he lost that purity and getting back to life would be impossible on his own. :: ::
Righteousness in the Savior :: If the Bible is true, then forgiveness of sins and eternal life through the Savior is one of the greatest offerings available to all of mankind. If you ignore the spiritual aspects of life and the fallen nature of man kind, then you will not see the need for a Savior and all the work, effort, and struggles of your life will be wasted and come to nothing. :: ::
Resisting Evil in the World :: Satan's downfall may have been caused by pride, but probably his greatest weapon against mankind is the lie because, if we believe a lie, we can be made to do almost anything. Discerning truth from fiction and right from wrong are necessary tools when the enemy will mask and misrepresent things to lead one astray, bring hate, destruction, and death, and cause any abomination possible. :: ::
Remembering My Testimony :: I grew up in a world rich with fiction and it has cost me so much, now I am on a quest to seek the truth and gain back that which I lost. After being suicidal from growing up in a secular and fiction loving society giving little or no meaning to life, I began seeking meaning to life which has led me to explore reality, understand truth, and ultimately find the Kingdom of Heaven. :: ::
Ready for Action :: We must stop accepting and permitting the many lies and falsehoods that are now in our lives and in our societies. Watching the effects of personal choices makes it obvious that one of the most important battles in life is to make a conscious effort to fight for and to defend righteousness, truth, and purity while living in a world full of sin, falsehood, and evil which is defended by enemies and pseudo-enemies. :: ::
Reviving the Soul :: When we realize falsehood is destroying our lives, then we should get rid of it, seek the truth, and share the truth with others. Being a teacher of righteousness, a messenger of truth, and a restorer of what the enemy has stolen is one of the great contributions I can accomplish in this lifetime and it seems the best people to reach are the children. :: ::
